Hosted by LMV member Dr. Craig Huenergardt in his home/clinic, LMV conducted a very successful 2-day dental clinic in Punta Abreojos, Baja California Sur. In addition to fillings, extractions and other dental care provided to 39 patients by Dr. Huenergardt, two new LMV dental hygienists conducted much-needed dental cleanings. An LMV clinic is an amazing experience. Sites vary significantly, from a mayor's house, to a school, town hall or church, to an existing town clinic opened to LMV doctors so that we can provide services the town doctor doesn't offer. Each site provides a different challenge: no electricity, poor sanitation, no dental chair or exam table. LMV addresses all these and more through a basic process of planning, setup, operation, and cleanup.
"The lines to get into the clinic every day were long. We saw over 1000 patients in the combined medical and dental clinics. One child was identified with a major heart defect and there was enough money in our fund to get him to Guatemala City and scheduled for heart surgery. It is nice to save some teeth but to save a life made us all feel joyful." | Full Story and Photos
